Congresswoman Analilia Mejia is a mom, a lifelong organizer, and nationally recognized advocate for working families. She now is the newly elected Congresswoman for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, and a member of the Homeland Security Committee and Small Business Committee. Born and raised in New Jersey, Congresswoman Mejia is the daughter of Colombian and Dominican immigrants who taught her that no one makes it alone. She grew up watching her mother, a seamstress, work multiple jobs and still struggle to put food on the table. When her mom got a union job, everything changed. 

Congresswoman Mejia started her career as a union organizer and went on to lead the fights for a $15 minimum wage and paid sick leave as director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance. She was the National Political Director for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign and served in the Department of Labor under President Joe Biden. She most recently was Co-Executive Director of Popular Democracy, supporting grassroots organizations across the country.

Congresswoman Mejia is proud to call Glen Ridge home — and even prouder to fight for New Jersey families who deserve a government as strong and determined as they are. Since entering Congress, she already has introduced legislation to increase the minimum wage to $25 dollars an hour, and has cosponsored key legislation to protect voting rights, lower everyday prices, and root out corruption in our democracy.
