Rep. Mejia and Rep. Dingell Sound Alarm on GOP Medicaid Cuts Threatening Healthcare Access For Millions
Lawmakers visited Packard Health in Ann Arbor to hear from providers and patients about the toll of the One Big Ugly Bill’s Medicaid cuts and threats to accessible health care

ANN ARBOR, MI — Congresswoman Analilia Mejia (NJ-11) joined Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06), Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, yesterday for a visit to Packard Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The lawmakers toured the facility and discussed with providers, staff, and patients the impact of Republicans’ H.R. 1, the Big Ugly Bill, on Medicaid, the 340B drug discount program, and community health centers nationwide.
H.R. 1 makes the largest Medicaid cuts in the program's history, and independent analyses estimate that as many as 300 hospitals, roughly 12% of all providers currently enrolled in the 340B program, could lose their eligibility as a result. The 340B program requires drug manufacturers to sell outpatient medications at a discount to safety-net providers like Packard Health, helping stretch limited resources to serve low-income and uninsured patients.
“Health care is a human right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it," said Congresswoman Mejia. "What I heard today at Packard Health mirrors what families in New Jersey's 11th District are living through. Cutting Medicaid and threatening 340B isn't just cutting a budget line, it's taking away a mother's insulin, a hospital's maternity ward, a family's last place to turn. Republicans chose to gut Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. I thank Congresswoman Dingell for welcoming me today, and together we will keep fighting to protect the health care our communities depend on."
